Question by : My husband and I are moving long distance and?
We are moving cross country to continue our education in graduate school. We are not homeowners, nor will be in the near future so we aren’t sure the best idea for living arrangements. We are moving ourselves (we are young, no children) in a Uhaul, and have thought about staying in a hotel while we search for an apartment, however I feel uncomfortable with a truckload of everything we own at a hotel. But we don’t want to move right into a place we haven’t personally seen. What’s the best thing to do?

can you go look at apartments or something before you move?

Climate control storage unit when you get where you are going. Then your stuff will be with you, and accessible if you need something, and climate control will keep it from mildewing. Don’t risk keeping it in a uhaul. Take your time finding a new place, check out the location first. You don’t want to make a rash decision, only to find your living next to a “crack house” or something.

If you are going to stay in a hotel, it will have everything you need except personal items and clothing. Put the rest in a mini storage which are generally inexpensive and secure. When you find the place you want rent another U-haul for a day to move your belongings to the new place. I expect it would be a whole lot cheaper than keeping the present truck tied up for that time.
